Larger than Life! Stretching and Framing Oversized Artwork

What do you do when you want to show off the oversized painting you bought at the gallery show last week?  Or the antique American flag handed down through the generations?  Box stores won’t carry premade frames for these treasures and their framing departments aren’t designed to fulfill the special needs of handling oversized art.

Sure, you COULD prop that extra-large painting against a wall and pray your dog doesn’t hike a leg, your kid doesn’t add his own artistic flair, and the housekeeper doesn’t knock it over while vacuuming.

You COULD thumbtack the flag to your living room wall- but the daily sunlight, the air, and the dust will simply continue to gnaw at the aging fibers.

Chances are you have much greater expectations for your treasures.  An experienced certified custom picture framer like the ones at Grant’s Frames can help you safely and stylishly show off your King-Kong-sized acquisitions.  Our experienced team of framers and designers can stretch canvas, mount your art through a variety of techniques, and help you design the perfect framed creation.

Here are a few oversized artworks that have come through the shop recently.

This oversized watercolor of a bull presented the challenge of mounting the watercolor artwork in a manner that exposed the beautiful deckle edge of the paper while retaining the reversible nature of the mounting technique.  The frame imitates burnt charcoal and is set off with a beautiful linen liner.  The end result is a sophisticated frame that enhances the art and reveals all the organic properties inherent to watercolor.

This piece of photo art is mounted in a beautiful glossy frame that measures 3.5” across.  Set within the frame is a custom linen liner that measures 4” across.  The simple pairing creates a stunning framework for the art.

“Push Start” came into Grant’s Frames as a piece of rolled canvas art.  Grant’s Frames built a structural frame and stretched the canvas.  When stretching such a large canvas, it is all-hands-on-deck.  Constructing the framework and then stretching the canvas required three people every step of the way!

When you have a large project, don’t despair and don’t settle for anything less than the best!  Grant’s Frames can help you realize even the biggest dream!
