Flags Unfurled! Display Your Flags in Custom Frames

Star spangled and otherwise, your flag deserves to be displayed and protected year round.

Chances are you have never heard of Robert G. Heft, but you could identify his artwork anywhere!  In 1958, a young history student who foresaw the statehood of Alaska and Hawaii, designed a fifty-star United States flag as a history project.  His teacher awarded the project a B- but promised to change the grade to an A if President Eisenhower selected the design.  A year later, President Eisenhower admitted Hawaii into the United States in August and chose Robert’s design to replace the 49-star flag that had been flying for the past 13 months.  On July 4th, 1960 at 12:01 am Robert’s fifty-star flag unfurled atop the flagpole at Ft. McHenry.

The American flag has seen 27 designs through the years, and Robert’s design has endured the longest.  With one star for each state, thirteen stripes to represent the original 13 colonies, and colors chosen to symbolize bravery, purity, and justice, the American flag flies proudly above homes, businesses, ball parks, schools, and churches across America.

At Grant’s Frames, we have framed our fair share of American flags!  We have framed delicate vintage flags with 38 stars, (“Hello Colorado!”).  We have framed folded flags and flat flags.  We have framed GIANT flags.  Each special flag arrives with a story and we are honored our customers entrust their treasures to our care.

When we frame a flag, we hand-stitch the flag to an archival board.  We will never use glue or tape or dry-mount it.  Adhesives are irreversible and will damage the textiles.  When including glass in the design, we recommend using UV protectant glass or Optium Museum Acrylic to protect the flag from ultraviolet light which will continue to fade the colors and destroy the fibers.

We have thousands of frame choices, from stately and traditional to bold and contemporary.  Whether you are looking for a themed frame, a specific color, an eco-friendly choice, or something you will know when you see- we feel certain you will find it in our showroom.   Still have questions?  Call for an appointment or stop by the showroom.  We look forward to working with you!
