Multiplicity! A Painless Formula for Magazine-Worthy Walls

Turn a drab room into a fab room with a simple trick designers have long used.  Hang a SET of images.  What do I mean by “set”?  Hang a series of images with a commonality; the commonality can be very specific- such as a series of photographs of a single bridge taken at various times of day and year, or much broader such as watercolor botanicals, which includes an infinite number of potential subjects.  Working with a set of similar images as a foundation can eliminate some of the guesswork and decision-making which makes decorating a daunting task.

Architectural Digest offered readers a peek into Kylie Jenner’s stylish home. Modern art adorned the walls- and frequently the art repeated itself in some fashion.  We loved the look so much it inspired us to create our own version for our shop gallery.  We downloaded a copyright-free image of a moth and created four versions of it using Photoshop.  We then printed it on metallic photo paper.  We embossed suede mats and framed them in luxurious metallic frames. Hung in a grouping they create a showcase wall.

Multiplicity in Blue! Yep- the Blue Dog has his very own wall. One of our customers brought in a Blue Dog calendar and wanted to create a gallery wall using the images from each month. In keeping with the playful nature of the subject, each image uses a unique mat and frame combination.

Art is everywhere! This wall of framed art began as consumer packaging. Shopping bags, labels, and packaging ribbon provided inspiration as well as design elements. Notice the mat opening for the Chanel bag follows the shape of the bag and the handle. The Chanel text that travels along the border is actually ribbon from the purchase. The ribbon technique is also used on the Hermes piece. And the Dior bag has been framed so that the handle forms a heart.

These creative art sets only hint at the endless wealth of possibilities. The four moths show how to alter one single image to create a varied collection. The Blue Dog wall is a great example of using a variety of art images that feature a unifying subject. And the designer packaging wall provides inspiration for a themed subject and a creative way to create art from something that was never intended to be art in the first place!
